Advent calendar - 15 December

Sorry about the short lapse in posts - been a bit busy getting ready for Christmas. I even had some orders for my felt reindeer and Christmas trees!

For those of you following my advent calendar this one will take you up until the 10th December

video

And this will take you from the 11th to the 15th.

I had great fun taking the shots for the videos and especially trying to get the Santa Sheep to stand up. I ended up using a combination of invisible thread to hang him from the ceiling, and pencils tapped to his legs to help keep his body up. The little felt snowflakes in this video are attached to the invisible thread to make them look like they are floating.

Advent calendar - 7 December

The 7 December brings a lovely Rudolph felt christmas decoration.

He is lightly stuffed as he is actually not very big. The antlers aren't stuffed though as that would have been too fiddly.

Advent calendar - 4 December

The 4 December and a new Christmas decoration....

This decoration is a pom-pom made with red dots of paint on some of the ends of wool. The hanger is finished off with a red bow at the bottom. I got this decoration out of a book from the library (I can't remember which one).

Advent calendar - 1 December

Last year I did an advent calendar for my sister - everyday I emailed her a little advent film. Some days she even got a little parcel to go with it. The 1 December is just a film day, here it is...

Butterfly card

I made this card for my friend's birthday...

The leaf background is a self-adhesive felt border that I picked up in the sale at Dunelm. The butterflies were adhesive outlines which I flocked. The flocking and the felt compliment each other really well and the blue leaves really make the pink butterflies stand out.

(It wasn't the easiest card to photograph! It looks a lot pretty in the flesh!)

Radley wedding card

One of my friends loves Radley bags so for her wedding I made them a Radley dog themed card.

I found some wide lace ribbon to use as a 'wedding dress' and some thin lace ribbon as a dog collar.

The suit is made out of paper with some purple ribbon used as a 'tie'. The dogs are attached to the card with foam pads so they stick out above the heart.

Don't they look cute!

Dotty leaving card/scrapbook

One of my friends recently left to go back to Canada after spending 6 months in England. Instead of doing a normal style leaving card I decided to create a concentina card that had 8 sides so I could include more pictures on it.

There was a dotty theme to her leaving present so I continued this on the card. I found some lovely dotty wrapping paper in Oliver Bonas (they do it in red, blue and pink!) to create a union jack front cover.

5 sides of the card then had pictures of things she did while she was here.

All the words  were stamped with my alphabet revolving stamper.

I ended the card with a cd of all the photos from her time in England. I made a cd pocket to attach to the card and covered this in more of the dotty paper.

Something she can keep forever to remind her of her English adventure!

New Home Card

My sister and her husband have just bought a house so I made her a new home card using the house advertisement section of the newspaper. I managed to find one just advertising the sold houses which I thought was quite appropriate.

The key is made out of cardboard and painted with metallic paint. The letters were made with some alphabet rubber stamp sets that I bought a few weeks ago. They were so cheap I ended up buying 5 sets in different fonts!

All the letters and the key were attached to the card with foam pads to make them stand out against the background.

Artfire shop

I've just opened an Artfire shop. The great thing about Artfire is that you can view the prices in pounds and you don't have to buy in dollars like you do on Etsy. Still a got a few more things to add but it's getting there...

You can buy the purple flower button card above on Artfire. I have the card in more colours listed in my etsy shop.

Felt birds

I've made some little felt birds...

They're actually quite tiny and look bigger in the photos! The blue one is my favorite.

Easter cards

My Easter crafts started a bit late this year (I made my cards a couple of days before!) Only managed to create one card using felt...

The basket is made out of one piece of felt with pink ribbon threaded through it. I cut the eggs out of green card and on the middle egg I layered some pink mesh paper over the top. The letters are from a sheet of letter transfers.

This Easter card doesn't include any felt but I love the dotty paper! The egg is made out of recycled card with dotty paper covering it. I then wrapped some ribbon around the egg and stuck a button in the middle.

Wedding cards

This weekend I've been busy making some wedding cards. They're based around a wedding cake template that I created.

The beads are attached to the card with some invisible thread. I made a small hole with a safety pin and attached the invisible thread to the back with some sellotape. I then threaded the bead onto the thread and stuck the free end of the thread back down the hole and attached it. The bead sits over the hole so you can't see it.

The Felt House - etsy shop

I've finally opened my etsy shop! I've launched it with 3 different versions of my flower card, blue, purple and pink (the orange is coming soon).

Hopefully I'll get time to work on some more colour versions this week, or maybe even an easter version. I can't wait for my first sale!

Cupcake card

This week I decided to make a cupcake card for my friend's birthday as she loves cooking and making cakes.

I sewed pleats in the cupcake case to give it a bit of texture. I assembled all the parts and added some stuffing in the middle before attaching it to the card. A button 'cherry' finished it off.

The Felt House - new blog header

I've just designed and uploaded a new blog header based on my blog name. It's my first attempt at a custom header. The felt house took a couple of evenings to make and kind of evolved as I went along. I stitched the windows and the door on with matching thread and stitched all the sides together with a contrasting purple thread. Had a slight mishap when I stitched the back on the wrong way round and ended up with 2 chimneys (I don't think you can tell that I had to cut one off)!

New baby present

This project doesn't technically feature felt (although the felt 'A' is one of presents wrapped up inside it) but I thought i'd put it on here anyway... To finish off the new baby present I decided to make a matching gift tag based on the design of the new baby card.

The tag is made out of one piece of card, folded in half along the long edge. I cut the pram shape with a craft knife on one half of the card. I gave the pram some texture by sticking mesh paper ribbon over the tissue paper and sticking this to the back of the aperature. Then I folded the card over and used double-sided tape to stick it to the other half, so you can't see how the tissue paper is stuck on. I finished it off by punching a hole in the top.

The finished present...  I hope they like it!

An amazing felt playhouse

I've just found the most amazing felt playhouse on the Homemade by Jill blog.

There is so much attention to detail and it is very interactive. I would love to have a go at making something like this, I've just got to find someone to make it for! Maybe you'll see something similar appearing on my blog in the coming year..

Felt letter decoration

This week I've been making this cute felt decoration for the nursery of my friend's new baby.

I started by cutting 2 letter 'A's out of the felt and arranging the buttons on the pieces before stitching them on. There are buttons sewn on both of the 'A' parts so it's reversible. I used a spare bit of pink ribbon for the hanger. The 2 parts were attached together by blanking stiching with white thread around the edges. I stuffed the different sections as they were stitched together rather than doing it all at the end.

New baby cards

My friends are having a little baby girl in the next few weeks so I thought I'd make their new baby card this afternoon...

The pram is made out of pink and white felt, with pink ribbon threaded through the hood part. I finished it off with 2 white buttons for the wheels. I used my new Ecterera revolving alphabet stamp for the wording.

I made a similar one a while ago in blue...

As I didn't have any white ribbon I did a running stitch in white thread around the outside of the hood.

Irwin the owl

After growing up in a house full of felt (my parents sell it) I've decided to see what I can actually make with it. So I found one of mum's old craft books, The complete book of Handicrafts (1973), and thought I'd try to make the fur fabric owl out of felt.

Meet Irwin the Owl...

Irwin likes hanging out on the bookshelf, where he can brush up on his knowledge so he can become an even wiser owl. If you want to test him just ask him a question below...
